Sometimes his blood sugar is too low. A cookie might help with that.
Fortunately for Rufus modern technology is helping. Recently he received an insulin pump. Just like Claire's! (He's been a little jealous that she's had one for a while and he was still getting shots. It took a little while for insurance to approve one for a bear. It's still experimental in the ursine population.)
Claire still takes very good care of him and has been very happy to learn how to use his new pump!

"experimental in the ursine population."
awesome.
I'd say that's one very lucky bear to have such a caring nurse.
Plus, she's pretty cute! :-)
that is serious material for a kids book... and ursine rights movement might be interested too...;) Ever read the Jasper Fforde books?
The book's already written: "Rufus Comes Home" by Kim Gosselin (Author), Terry Ravanelli (Illustrator)
The local JDRF chapter provides kids recently diagnosed with diabetes with a Rufus Bear and his book. It's really a great program.
Rufus doesn't receive a pump in the book though. That's a bit beyond the original storyline.
OUR Rufus received his very own pump courtesy of a small block of wood, a sticker that looks exactly like Claire's pump, and some tubing from an old unused site. Mom and Dad were being creative. He still needs a pump pack to go with his pump though!
